Some recent Award Season HP news

The season of movie awards is now well under way, and there are a few pieces of news relating to Harry Potter to report on:

  • Firstly, Potter actors Jim Broadbent (Slughorn) and David Thewlis (Lupin), have been nominated at the London Evening Standard British Film Awards, for their respective roles in the films Another Year and London Boulevard.

  • The Production Designer for Harry Potter, Stuart Craig, has received a nomination in the Fantasy Film category at the Art Directors Guild Awards for his work on Deathly Hallows Part 1.

  • The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Oscars) has revealed the finalists in the race to get an Oscar nomination in the Visual Effects Category. Deathly Hallows Part 1 was one of seven films on the list, which will be cut down on Jan 20th to five final nominees.

  • And finally, Deathly Hallows Part 1 has been longlisted in 8 categories for the BAFTAs. These categories are:
         • Make Up & Hair
         • Editing
         • Special Visual Effects
         • Costume Design
         • Sound
         • Production Design
         • Cinematography
         • Original Music
    Additionally, Helena Bonham Carter, Miranda Richardson, and Jim Broadbent have all been longlisted in acting categories for roles outside of Potter.

Deathly Hallows: Part 1 has now officially been nominated for two BAFTAs. These are:

Photos and interviews from yesterday’s WB Studio Tour red carpet opening

Yesterday afternoon, Harry Potter cast and crew and a host of other celebrities gathered at Leavesden Studios near London to celebrate the opening of the WB Studio Tour with a big red carpet event.

Paramount buys movie rights to Harry Potter, reveals plans for remake with Michael Bay directing

Huge news just developing: Paramount has announced that it has purchased all film rights to Harry Potter from WB and that they have a remake of the movies in the pipeline and are lining up Michael Bay to direct and produce.

A spokesperson for Bay, the director of the Transformers movies, had this to say:

“Michael has been in discussions with Paramount for a few weeks about a potential reboot of the Harry Potter series in the near future. He is very excited to hear this news this morning and that the plans are set to come to fruition.

He wants to go way bigger and better than before, and has been developing new computer technology for creating the best explosions movie goers will have ever seen.”

Watch the WB Studio Tour red carpet opening event live here

The big opening of the WB Studio Tour is taking place tomorrowΒ today with a red carpet event featuring many stars of the movies. For all those of us not lucky enough to get a ticket to the event, WB will thankfully be livestreaming it all online, and you’ll be able to watch it right here.

It is due to start at 10am EDT, 3pm UK time.
