Last month the MPAA revealed it had given an ‘R’ classification in the US to Emma Watson’s new film The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
This annoyed fans of the book and the film studio alike because a mature R rating would have restricted the audience that would have been able to watch the movie and in turn would have limited its box office potential.
Distributor Summit appealed the decision and today we are finding out that that appeal has been successful and the rating has now been dropped down to a PG-13, for “mature thematic material, drug and alcohol use, sexual content including references, and a fight – all involving teens.”
The film doesn’t have an exact release date yet but should be out later this year.

Emma Watson has updated her website to officially confirm that she is to star in Bling Ring.
The film, which has been rumoured for the last couple of weeks, will be directed by Sofia Coppola and is based on a true story about a group of teenagers who commit a string of celebrity burglaries.
Emma notes that she will be taking the third term out of her studies at Worcester College, Oxford University, in order to take part in the film. Here’s what she had to say in the brief message on her site: Get the whole story »

Nickelodeon announced on February 17 the nominees for the 2012 Kids Choice Awards and Harry Potter is up for four awards. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is up for Favorite Movie, Daniel Radcliffe is up for Favorite Actor, Emma Watson is up for Favorite Actress and the most interesting category, I think, will be Favorite Book. The entire Harry Potter series is going up against the Twilight series, The Hunger Games series, and the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. I will definitely be tuning in to see how that category goes. Voting doesn’t start until February 24 so mark your calendars and tune in on March 31 at 8pm EST. KCA will be hosted live by Will Smith on Nick.
