The Blair Partnership, JK Rowling’s literary agency, have just officially announced the massively exciting news that JK Rowling will soon be releasing a new book for adults! They don’t give much away, saying “Further details will be announced later in the year.”

And a handwritten note from Jo on their site reads:

Although I’ve enjoyed writing it just as much, my next novel will be very different from the Harry Potter series.

Stay tuned for more news on this in the weeks and months ahead!

Update: We’ve now learnt from Publishers Lunch that the book will be published by Little, Brown. Get the whole story »

100 Greatest Books for Kids

USA Today uncovered the Scholastic Parent & Child Magazine’s “100 Greatest Books for Kids” and Harry Potter made the list. JK Rowling is featured on the cover of the March issue, which features the list, and when asked why Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was only #6 (and the only one on the list) P&C’s editor-in-chief Nick Friedman said “although it is undoubtedly one the of the greatest in history, it is only 15 years old and hasn’t had time to become established”. This reporter feels a little differently.

Topping the list at #1 was Charlotte’s Web, and at 60 years old the story emerged as “sophisticated”. Friedman and four other editors made the final list from nearly 500 titles. Editors added The Hunger Games to the list but felt that Twilight was “too mature”. I can’t argue with that, but I can’t help but feel that the violence in THG is more accepted than the love scenes in Twilight. What do you think?

JK Rowling and agent Christopher Little reach ‘amicable agreement’ after split

Back in July, not long after the launch of Pottermore, we learned about the termination of the most successful literary partnership ever, as JK Rowling left the Christopher Little agency.

While Christopher Little has been the man that began the success and guided Harry Potter along to become what it is today, JKR decided to follow Neil Blair, a partner at the agency, to his new agency The Blair Partnership.

69 year old Little was originally quoted to have said he was “disappointed and surprised” after learning Jo had left. Today we’ve learnt from a source at The Telegraph that the pair reached a financial settlement:

“JK Rowling and her former agent, Christopher Little, have reached an amicable agreement concluding their long-standing business relationship, the terms of which remain confidential,” I am told by a spokesman for Little. “No further comments will be issued by either party.”

We won’t speculate on the possible reasons for the unexpected split, but we wish both Jo and Christopher all the best as they go their separate ways.
