Harry Potter wins big at National Movie Awards

The National Movie Awards aired live this evening in the UK, and as usual Harry Potter was one of the big winners. Deathly Hallows Part 1 picked up Best Fantasy Film and Deathly Hallows Part 2 was named most anticipated movie of the summer.

Producers David Heyman and David Barron were there to accept the awards along with Bonnie Wright. Meanwhile Bonnie's fiance Jamie Campbell Bower, who appeared in Deathly Hallows Part 1 as the young Grindelwald, won the 'One to Watch' award. All the awards were voted for by the British movie-going public.

There's also a nice Harry Potter montage in the middle looking back at all the awards its won at the NMAs in the past. I managed to record all the HP related footage and you can watch that right here:

Will the Americans ever give the Harry Potter movies the Oscars they really deserve or will they show their sour faces
and not even acknowledge all 8 movies!
Lets see next year and see how the Oscars really work!
Not on popularity or people choice for sure!
It is after all "academy awards"! Really?
I am giving my daughter a Harry Potter themed bridal shower!! On July 14th, so we can enjoy and celebrate both her and the end of Harry Potter movies!!

Alan Rickman and Rupert Grint reunite in “CBGB” (Update: Rupert also confirmed for ‘The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman’)

CBGB may be about a crazy, punk rock NYC club, but it will also have a small Harry Potter reunion for us fans. According to Hitflix, Alan Rickman, who is best known for his  role as Potions master Severus Snape, is being joined by Rupert Grint, who played Ron Weasley, in the film about the venue that helped launched the careers of The Ramones, Blondie, The Misfits, Patti Smith, and others.

Rickman is playing Hilly Kristal, who was the founder of the club, and Grint is playing Dead Boys guitarist Cheetah Crome, who is the exact opposite of Ron Weasley.

CBGB is being written by Randall Miller and Jody Savin (Bottle Shock) and being produced by Kristal’s daughter, Lisa Kristal Burgmann. Shooting is scheduled to being sometime this week in New York.

Update: We have also had confirmation via RupertGrint.net that Rupert shall be starring alongside Shia LaBeouf in The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman. More news on that soon.

“Hogwart’s Library Box Set” by JK Rowling may be on the way (Updated)

A Bloomsbury report released this morning got fans speculating with their mysterious statement that they hope a new Harry Potter related 3-book box set will boost their sales over the coming year. No more details were given and many of us were led to believe this simply meant a new release of Quidditch Through The Ages, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and The Tales of Beedle the Bard was in the pipeline.

However, another snippet of information found by a Hypable.com reader suggests it might be something more – a ”Hogwart’s Library Box Set” written by JK Rowling. This lines up with the recent release of library book excerpts on Pottermore. From that Sharecast.com article:

Bloomsbury, which is to release a Hogwart’s Library Box Set by JK Rowling and Three Good Things by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall in 2012, said it would extend its focus on its academic business following the acquisition of Continuum.

This sounds very interesting indeed. What do you think? We will let you know as soon as we hear anything more on the subject!

Update: Bloomsbury have confirmed that this new box set is simply a repackaging of the existing three companion books listed above, which will be released in hard-back. They tweeted the following picture of the upcoming set: Get the whole story »

Daniel Radcliffe confirms next role and expresses interest in future Pinocchio project

Variety yesterday reported that Dan Radcliffe has been officially confirmed to star in upcoming UK TV mini-series A Young Doctor’s Notebook, based on a Russian novel, in which he and 41 year old actor Jon Hamm will play the same role, but in different time periods. Variety says this:

The pair feature in “A Young Doctor’s Notebook,” a four-part skein inspired by a collection of short stories by Russian writer and playwright Mikhail Bulgakov set during the Russian Revolution.

Hamm takes the role of the older doctor, who has a series of bleakly comic exchanges with his younger self, portrayed by Radcliffe.

Show has been green lit by Sky Arts, owned by U.K. pay box BSkyB, and will be distributed internationally by BBC Worldwide.

Also reported yesterday on IndieWire.com is the news that Dan has approached Guillermo Del Toro to express interest in providing his voice for Del Toro’s new stop-motion Pinocchio film project:

The director’s been planning his take on the classic tale, which will feature music by Nick Cave, for some time, but only last week confirmed that he’ll be co-directing the animated feature, with “Fantastic Mr. Fox” animation director Mark Gustafson. And today, the filmmaker spoke to interested parties in Cannes via satellite link about the project to help drum up sales, and revealed that Harry Potter himself might end up in the project.

According to the “Pan’s Labyrinth” filmmaker, he was approached by Daniel Radcliffe, who’s keen to get involved on the project, and the actor is one of a number of names that he hopes might become involved, including Tom Waits, and Christopher Walken, who Del Toro wants to play the fox. The helmer stressed that no deals have been made, but he must also be on relatively safe ground if he’s willing to talk about it publicly. So could Radcliffe end up voicing the little wooden boy of the title? He’d certainly be a strong choice.
